From there Ben began contributing sketches to 'Melting Pot', a monthly new writing sketch show at The Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh, and to The Comedy Unit's (Chewin' the Fat, Rab C. Nesbitt) 'Rough Cuts' shows in both Glasgow and London, as well as supplying material to the Unit’s 2007 sell-out Fringe hit 'Angry Puppy'. This quickly led to writing for BBC TV / The Comedy Unit's 'The Karen Dunbar Show', which was nominated twice for the Golden Rose of Montreaux prize. 'Rough Cuts' has recently developed from stage to podcast and Ben has written and performed for its highly successful first series.
In the last two years Ben has turned his hand to stand-up, cultivating a style which is an upbeat mix of smart gags and inventive anecdotes. He regularly gigs as an act or host all over Scotland and has performed alongside big names like Dylan Moran, Patrick Monaghan and Kevin Bridges to name a few, as well as providing tour support for Tony Law (and appearing in Dan Antopolski's 'Sandwich Rap' music video!). Ben performed his first solo hour, 'Not With That Attitude' at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe.
Currently, Ben is promoter and MC of The Beehive Comedy Club which runs three successful nights in Edinburgh's famous Beehive Inn; is a writer and performer with The Broken Windows Policy, The Stand Comedy Club's resident monthly sketch show; and is a core member of Jo Caulfield's Edinburgh Comedy Collective and it's spin-off podcast 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' which has a pilot in development with BBC Scotland.
